Produce & Publish selects one of its supported external PDF converters to perform conversions from HTML/XML to PDF. Converter choice is made according to project specifications

Produce & Publish uses external converters to perform conversions from HTML/XML to PDF. The free/commercial PDF converters listed below are supported by Produce & Publish.  Where a high PDF quality - comparable to that of print publications - is required, we generally use PrinceXML or PDFreactor as the converter.  These converters are comparable in terms of quality and differ only slightly with regard to their features and capabilities.  The correct choice of converter depends on the specifications of the project at hand.

PhantomJS

  • Good PDF quality
  • Does not support all CSS Paged Media properties (e.g. no support for multi-column layout)
  • No support for PDF bookmarks, encryption etc.
  • Generally adequate for creating acceptable PDF documents from CMS content on-the-fly
  • Not suitable for complex, layout-oriented publications

The licence costs for PrinceXML und PDFreactor refer to a general server licence that is permitted to be installed on one server (limited to 4 CPU Cores in the case of PDFreactor).  We handle the procurement of licences from the respective manufacturers.
